St. Brigid's Day
Traditionally the first day of spring, St.Brigid's Day is always a good day in school. Chuaigh rang a cúig agus rang a sé amach ag cruinniú feagacha do chrosóga Bhríde. We looked at the Schools' Collection on Dúchas.ie, and learned more about the customs and folklore associated with Brigid.
Pupils also learnt a new song about St.Brigid, a Cruinniú na nÓg production.

Junior Room returns to school! 1st March 2021.
Nollaig 2020
We had a busy and festive time at school during the lead up to the Christmas Holidays.
Curriculum work included Christmas poetry and stories, Gaeilge- Scéal na Nollag, the story of the first Christmas, lots of art work, including home-made paper streamers, print work, clay Nativity figures, Christmas cards, Christmas wreaths and painting.
Our Peace IV work continued with our friends from Trentagh NS. The Senior Room worked on the story of the 'Christmas Carol' and created a "Screencastify" presentation to share with Trentagh, showcasing their artwork and pictures based on the story of Scrooge, Tiny Tim et al! They enjoyed a game of Christmas charades.
Both rooms wrote and designed their own Christmas cards which were sent off by post. The Junior Room had a Christmas Quiz and joined in carol singing with their Trentagh friends.
Children enjoyed a festive film, Ms. Buchanan served up chocolate and delicious pancakes. The Junior Room had a party and games and each child went home with a special gift- a carefully-chosen book . Beannachtaí na Féile daoibh uilig!

Míreanna Mearaí
Táimid ag baint sult as ár gcuid míreanna mearaí (jigsaws). Puzail cúig chéad phíosa atá iontu. Tá siad maith fá choinne aireachas (mindfulness), aird a dhíriú ar rud (concentration) agus foghlama físúil (Visual learning). Agus an rud is fearr, bionn muid ag obair lenár gcuid cairde!
Drámaíocht. Hansel agus Gretel.
Bhain an rang taitneamh as an ceacht seo. Bhíomar ag déanamh Hansel agus Gretel sa ceacht Gaeilge agus ansin shochraíomar dráma a dhéanamh as. Bhí craic mór againn. Tugann sé seans do gach duine an gaeilge a labhairt.
Storytime with the new outdoor furniture!!
Spraoi agus Spórt don Samhain!
Outdoor Classroom and Creative Schools
The current spell of fine September weather means that we can enjoy learning out of doors. And what better than to have our very own outdoor classroom space! The furniture was designed, built and hand-crafted in larch by Nicholas Friel and it's a lovely addition to our school. We appreciate the funding from the Creative Arts Programme. Early on in the process, when the children were working with Leanne, our Arts Facilitator, the children themselves expressed an interest in having a little space in which they could sit and talk and play together. So, have a look and see how much the children are already enjoying this space!
First Communions
Congratulations to our children who made their First Communion on Saturday 12th September in the peaceful surroundings of Coole Church, Cranford. They did their readings and prayers beautifully . A special year - we hope the children and their families had a wonderful and memorable day.

15.01.20. The Junior Room had a lovely morning over with our friends in Trentagh National School as part of our Leargas Project. We participated in various activities, focussing on literacy. Practical maths
Rang 3 and Rang 4 have been busy learning about length.
Homes
The Junior Room has been working on the theme of Homes during their SESE and Aistear (learning through play) this week. Among other things covered, we drew up plans of our homes imaginary or otherwise!) and created different types of homes out of lego. We have also been learning about the concept of 'home' for animals and have been learning a lovely poem called 'A Wren's Home'.
Peace IV Shared Education Programme
We had an enjoyable morning's dancing in this beautiful hall in Kilmacrennan with our friends from Trentagh NS. Pupils, teachers and SNAs all enjoyed dancing together, learning the steps and moving in time to the lovely traditional dance music. October 2019

Actively participating in their learning:
BeeBots in the Junior Room
The Junior Room had a great day with Trentagh National School on Wednesday. The children learned how to create simple code to make the beebots move. It was tricky as they had to remember lots of instructions at the same time. But with a bit of practice, they all managed to work it out and make the beebots move in whatever direction they wanted them too! It was a fantastic fun way to practice literacy and numeracy skills and we will definitely be using them more in our own classroom!
SESE Geography map work
One of our favourite resources is the Discovery Map Series. Maps are very informative and we can learn so much about our local area, example. We copied a section of the map, enlarging the scale. Pupils had to look very closely and their maps are beautifully drawn, containing much detail.
